Frequently Asked Questions
If you have a question before coming in, there's a good chance the answer is here. If it isn't, call us at (904) 551-6683. We're at the shop seven days a week and we'd rather answer a quick question than have you show up uncertain.
How do I make an appointment?
Come into the shop. We do all consultations in person because the details that determine the final outcome — imagery, placement, exact sizing on your body — are best worked out face to face. Stopping in on a weekend walk-in day is the easiest way to start that process. Once the consultation is done and we have an agreed estimate, we collect a non-refundable deposit to hold your appointment.
Do you take walk-ins?
Yes. Walk-in sessions are available every Saturday and Sunday from 11am to 7pm on a first come, first served basis. No appointment needed — come by, look through the reference collection, and talk with the first available artist about what you have in mind. During the week, we make time for smaller walk-in work when the schedule allows, but weekends are dedicated walk-in days. See our walk-in page for more detail.
Do you offer piercings?
No. Mister Tattoo is a tattoo-only shop. If you need a referral to a reputable piercing studio, ask at the desk.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash, credit cards, and Apple Pay.
What styles do you do?
All of them. Our foundation is American traditional tattooing, but our artists work across the full range: Japanese, black and grey, fine line, portrait and realism, neo-traditional, and custom work that doesn't fit neatly into a single category. Browse our artists page and style galleries — American Traditional, Japanese, Black and Grey, Fine Line, Portrait, Jaguar — to see the range of work we produce.
Do you do cover-ups?
Yes. Bring the old tattoo into the shop and we'll tell you what's realistic. Cover-ups need to be bigger and darker than what's underneath, so most of them start with an in-person consult; depending on size, color, and availability, a small one can sometimes be done as a walk-in. Details on the cover-up tattoos page.
What should I do to prepare?
Eat a solid meal before your appointment or walk-in. Come showered and clean. Wear clothing that gives easy access to the area being tattooed. Bring a valid, government-issued photo ID — we accept state driver's licenses, state ID cards, military IDs, and passports. We do not accept school IDs or birth certificates.
Can I bring a friend?
Yes, but keep it to two guests. The shop has an open floor plan and we ask that everyone is mindful of the artists' ability to concentrate on the work in front of them.
Do you tattoo minors?
Tattooing minors is handled on a case-by-case basis at the artist's discretion. All applicable Florida state requirements must be met. Parental or guardian consent and presence is required, and the final decision rests with the artist.
What if I'm nervous about my first tattoo?
That's normal and we see it every day. Come in, look at the space, talk to whoever's at the desk, and ask whatever you need to ask. Nobody here is going to make you feel like your question is stupid or that you're wasting their time. The best first tattoo experiences start with a real conversation.
How do I choose an artist?
Look at the portfolios. Each artist's page includes a gallery of their work, and their background. Browse our artists page before you come in. If you arrive on a walk-in weekend with an open mind, we'll match you with whoever is best suited for your piece and available that day. If you have a specific artist in mind, the surest way to get them is to reach out to them directly and book an appointment.
How long will my tattoo take?
A small flash piece or simple design can be done in an hour or less. A medium custom piece typically runs two to four hours. Large-scale work — sleeves, chest pieces, back pieces — is planned in sessions and scheduled over multiple appointments. Your artist will give you a realistic time estimate during the consultation.
How much does a tattoo cost?
Pricing is based on size, complexity, placement, and time. There is no standard rate card because no two tattoos are the same. When you come in, your artist will look at what you have in mind, discuss size and placement, and give you a clear estimate before any work begins. There are no surprises and no pressure. For appointments, we require a non-refundable deposit that is applied to the final price.
What is your touch-up policy
Touch-ups are free within 90 days of your appointment.
